Punt touts in Cambridge city centre should soon face an on-the-spot fine after the city council passed a landmark piece of legislation.

Touting for punt tours in the likes of King’s Parade and the Market Square will be banned under the council’s proposed public spaces protection order (PSPO), which was approved tonight. But this is unlikely to be the end of the saga, if the meeting was anything to go by.

Independent operator Tom Arnold – whose Traditional Cambridge Tours would be one of the unlicensed operators affected by the ban – said advice from two separate lawyers suggested there were grounds to challenge the decision, based on both the consultation and underlying issues.
